Belg Belg

Date of Issue – 8 November 2010

On November 8, 2010, the Belgium Post issued a set of two stamps on  Christmas  entitled "Santa Claus in his sleigh". Belgium has two Santa Claus figures known as St. Nicholas and Pere Noel. There are different cultures in Belgium, the Northern part being Vlaanderen (speaking a Dutch dialect), the Southern part being Wallonie (speaking a French dialect) and the Eastern part speaking German. Pere Noel visits people who speak French on 6th December along with his friend Pere Fouettard to know whether the children have been good or bad. Good children receive chocolates and candies while bad children just get a handful of sticks.
