Hi ! Here are some more stamps, miniature sheet and Cover on Tarzan. After publication of my last Post about Tarzan Stamp by USPS, I received information from Dr Eli Moallem of Israel about some more stamps on Tarzan issued by other postal administrations. The stamps are just wonderful. Thanks to Eli for sharing these nice stamps here on my Blog ! Well Tarzan is a name which fascinates everyone, especially during school days through comics or films….Just enjoy the stamps and have a Nice Time !
The United States Postal Service will issue a postage stamp on world famous Cartoon Character Tarzan, the ape man in 2012. The design of the stamp has already been finalized. The stamp will become hot favorite of stamp collectors all over the world.
Tarzan is a fictional character, an archetypal feral child raised in the African jungles by the Mangani "great apes"; he later returns to civilization only to largely reject it and return to the wild as a heroic adventurer. Created by Edgar Rice Burroughs, Tarzan first appeared in the novel Tarzan of the Apes (magazine publication 1912, book publication 1914), and then in twenty-five sequels, three authorized books by other authors, and innumerable works in other media.
The U.S. Postal Service joins with fans around the world in celebrating the centennial of a cultural phenomenon.
This stamp shows Tarzan, Edgar Rice Burroughs’ most famous literary creation, clinging to a tree by a vine in his left hand and wielding a weapon in his right. Burroughs appears in profile in the background. Hulbert Burroughs, the author’s son, took the 1934 photograph that served as the basis for the stamp portrait of Burroughs. The depiction of Tarzan is artist Sterling Hundley’s own interpretation of the character.
In the past century, Burroughs’ Tarzan stories have been published in magazines, syndicated in newspapers, and republished in more than 24 books, while the Tarzan character has grown into a phenomenon beyond the printed word. In 1918, the silent film Tarzan of the Apes became the first of more than 50 Tarzan movies. Tarzan also became the subject of a comic strip beginning in 1929, radio series in the 1930s and the 1950s, and several television series in the 1970s, 1980s, and 1990s. Today, Tarzan is a ubiquitous part of American popular culture.
Burroughs is also remembered for writing historical fiction and several popular series of science fiction tales, especially the 11 books in his famous “John Carter of Mars” series. A new film adaptation of Burroughs’ Mars series is scheduled for release in 2012.
Tarzan is the son of a British Lord and Lady who were marooned on the West coast of Africa by mutineers. When Tarzan was a year old, his mother died of natural causes, and his father was killed by Kerchak, leader of the ape tribe into which Tarzan was adopted. Tarzan's tribe of apes is known as the Mangani, Great Apes of a species unknown to science. Kala is his ape mother. Tarzan (White-skin) is his ape name; his English name is John Clayton, Lord Greystoke In fact, Burroughs's narrator in Tarzan of the Apes, describes both Clayton and Greystoke as fictitious names – implying that, within the fictional world that Tarzan inhabits, he may have a different real name.
As a young adult, Tarzan meets a young American woman, Jane Porter, who along with her father and others of their party is marooned at exactly the same spot on the African coast where Tarzan's parents were twenty years earlier. When she returns to America, he leaves the jungle in search of her, his one true love. In later books, Tarzan and Jane marry and he lives with her for a time in England. They have one son, Jack, who takes the ape name Korak ("the Killer"). Tarzan is contemptuous of the hypocrisy of civilization, and he and Jane return to Africa, making their home on an extensive estate that becomes a base for Tarzan's later adventures.
In Tarzan, Burroughs created an extreme example of a hero figure largely unalloyed with character flaws or faults. He is described as being Caucasian, extremely athletic, tall, handsome, and tanned, with grey eyes and black hair. Emotionally, he is courageous, loyal and steadfast. He is intelligent and learns new languages easily. He is presented as behaving ethically in most situations, except when seeking vengeance under the motivation of grief, as when his ape mother Kala is killed in Tarzan of the Apes, or when he believes Jane has been murdered in Tarzan the Untamed. He is deeply in love with his wife and totally devoted to her; in numerous situations where other women express their attraction to him, Tarzan politely but firmly declines their attentions. When presented with a situation where a weaker individual or party is being preyed upon by a stronger foe, Tarzan invariably takes the side of the weaker party. In dealing with other men Tarzan is firm and forceful. With male friends he is reserved but deeply loyal and generous. As a host, he is likewise generous and gracious. As a leader, he commands devoted loyalty.
In keeping with these noble characteristics, Tarzan's philosophy embraces an extreme form of "return to nature". Although he is able to pass within society as a civilized individual, he prefers to "strip off the thin veneer of civilization", as Burroughs often puts it. His preferred dress is a knife and a loincloth of animal hide, his preferred abode is any convenient tree branch when he desires to sleep, and his favored food is raw meat, killed by himself; even better if he is able to bury it a week so that putrefaction has had a chance to tenderize it a bit.

LAUNCH ON TRACK The Fat Controller and Thomas the Tank Engine with the first class stamp
Thomas the Tank Engine is making the appearance to celebrate the centenary of the birth of creator Reverend W Awdry.
The stamps show iconic images from the television series Thomas & Friends, with the 1st Class stamp featuring Thomas pulling into the station under the guidance of the Fat Controller.
Thomas the Tank Engine was first seen in the book, Thomas the Tank Engine after Reverend W. Awdry created the stories and illustrations to entertain his poorly child, Christopher.
2011 marks the centenary of the birth of the Reverend Wilbert Awdry, Thomas the Tank Engine creator. Royal Mail issued a ten-stamp issue, six printed individually, celebrating the images familiar from the TV series, and a four stamp miniature sheet reflecting on the heritage of the book illustrations.
Thomas the Tank Engine is a 0-6-0 tank locomotive, based on the LB&SCR E2 Class. He is painted blue with red lining and is number 1 in the North Western Railway (NWR) fleet. Thomas was given his own branch line, which he operates with his two coaches, Annie and Clarabel. He was built in 1913 and arrived on Sodor in 1915.
James the Red Engine is a mixed-traffic 2-6-0 tender engine. He is painted red with gold stripes and dome and is number 5 in the NWR fleet. He is quite vain and hot-headed, and loves showing off. He was built 1915 and arrived on Sodor in 1946.
Percy the Small Engine is a saddle tank engine of indeterminate origins. He is painted green with red stripes and is number 6 in the NWR fleet. He is a cheeky little engine with a strong sense of adventure, who doesn't let anyone push him around, which sometimes gets him into trouble. He arrived on Sodor on 1949 during a railway strike.
Daisy is a unique diesel railcar, painted green with yellow lining (similar to the livery of British Railways DMUs in the 1960s), and was built specially for use on the Ffarquhar branch of the NWR. Her number is D1 whereas she originally carried the number 52627. She was built in 1956 and arrived on Sodor in 1961. She first appeared in the book Branch Line Engines.
Toby the Tram Engine is a 0-6-0 steam tram engine who works on the same branch line as Thomas. He is painted brown and blue and is number 7 in the NWR fleet. He is a wise, experienced engine who knows all there is to know about running a branch line. He was built in 1903 and arrived on Sodor in 1951.
Gordon the Big Engine is a 'Pacific' (4-6-2) tender engine. He is painted blue with red stripes and is number 4 in the NWR fleet. He is the biggest engine on the railway, and pulls the Express. He is also very boastful and proud, but good at heart. He was built and arrived on Sodor in 1922.

Post Danmark issued two stamps on 8 June 2011, two of DR’s children's TV stars: Bruno and Teddy. cartoon films are favourite of children all over the world. These stamps are sure to be liked by children and those collecting on ‘ children theme ’. This stamps have a white background so the characters look very bright and attractive .

Critical Analysis of the cover : The 3 elements of the above cover are not co-related. The stamp is on Energy conservation, cover illustration shows Rhododendron and the cancellation shows “letter writing campaign”. Not a good item for thematic collection . All the three elements must have relation with each other.

The Reserve Bank of India will shortly issue Rs 10/- denomination banknotes with inset letter "B" in both numbering panels in Mahatma Gandhi Series 2005 bearing the signature of Dr. D. Subbarao, Governor, Reserve Bank of India. Except for the change in the inset letter, the design of these notes to be issued now is similar in all respects to the banknotes in Mahatma Gandhi Series 2005 issued earlier. All banknotes in the denomination of 10/- issued by the Bank in the past will continue to be legal tender.

German Post issued a set of 4 welfare stamps four episodes of the well-known animated film about Loriot, a talking dog, and his owner Dr. Sommer. The welfare stamps are traditionally issued by the German Post in favor of voluntary welfare. This year's recipient of the additional cents mentioned on the welfare stamps is the Federal Association of Voluntary Welfare, organization according relief to destitute people. Loriot is a comedy, it shows real social conditions and human behavior, reflecting funny situations of viewers' everyday life.

BATON RELAY COVER OF CHENNAI HAS TWO DIFFERENT DATES

On the back side of this cover, statue of Tamil Saint Thiruvallavar is printed. As Saint Thiruvallavar was Jain, some of the Philatelists, who collect Jainism theme, have affixed one stamp on the back side also and arranged to cancel it with special cancellation of Chennai.On the back side of the cover it is printed that “The Special Cover is issued to commemorate the arrival of Queen’s Baton Relay at Chennai on 20.08.2010” while the cancellation bears date of about two months back i.e. 25.06.2010.
